Asylum Seekers Project

Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Project >>
The collaboration with women from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre dates back to 2008. Borcherdt’s aim was to devise a range of objects that could be easily produced, without any expertise or technology, by women who are facing the challenges of starting up a new life in a foreign country.
The hand stitching of the felt can be done with minimal training and allows the women to generate an income from their own home or working from the auspices of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
The project operates in a fluid way, not imposing deadlines and allowing the participants to set the quantity of units they wish to produce.
The number of women that participate in the project varies constantly as their circumstance tend to change rapidly. The countries of origin are equally varied and include Syria, Pakistan, Philippines and Somalia.
